Fractography

Fractography is a critical technique used in materials engineering to perform Failure Analysis.

The fracture surface is the failure’s diary: beach marks trace the crack’s progress, the initiation point shows the cause — and the SEM reads it at 100× and 150× magnification.

Case studies & field applications

Optical microscope — beach marks & crack origin

Progressive cracking from the tooth machined surface — beach marks and the crack origin are recorded on the fracture surface.

Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)

Advanced microscopy reveals failure mechanisms — crack initiation point on a tooth fractured surface (SEM, 100×) and SEM fractography of the fracture surface (150×).
